Successful Fundraiser | Mobilising the St Andrew’s Cathedral Garden Community

For the past several decades, the space adjacent to St Andrew’s Cathedral and Chapter House has remained undeveloped and unusable. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of Dr Jen George from Comcorp in collaboration with St Andrew’s Cathedral and many stakeholders, the site is on track to be re-created as a public-private garden space to be shared with the community and city. Thanks to the involvement of many professional pro bono building design partners, the DA approved design reflects the deeper meaning of the site resulting from extensive community consultation. The next stage of this place-making strategy is to deliver a new green heart to the city through a significant community fundraising effort.

This unique project will adorn one of the city’s premier civic and heritage precincts; provide rare and valuable deep-soil in the heart of Sydney’s CBD; add valuable outdoor hospitality space to the Cathedral; provide a flexible open space for public and private use; and be available as an educational space to St Andrew’s and Gawura Schools.

This strategic initiative towards community, green space and CBD liveability was formally announced at a fundraising dinner held in the Chapter House on the evening of Wednesday, 27 September, 2023. The event was attended by The Most Reverend Kanishka Raffel, Archbishop of Sydney, as well as Councillor HY William Chan of the City of Sydney. Attendees enjoyed performances by students from Anglican schools across the city, as well as stunning floral displays provided by supportive and talented volunteers.
